Many New Beginnings for Old North in 2025

All of us at the Old North Saint Louis Restoration Group are busy and excited for some new projects this year.

Newspaper Return! Neighbors from Old North and St. Louis Place joined together to reboot a quarterly newspaper, which is called The Near Northsider. The first edition is now printing and will be distributed in the coming weeks. We are hoping to hand deliver it in both neighborhoods, and issues will also be available at Crown Candy Kitchen and The Griot, as well as online on our website. If you’d like to contribute to future editions, send an email to founding editor Tom Radomski at newspaper@onsl.org.

ONSLRG Office Returns! We have received a grant from SLDC to renovate an office for the Restoration Group. We are looking forward to a new space for meetings and many of our activities. The new office will be located right across the street from Crown Candy Kitchen at 2800 N 14th St where the optometry office once operated. Work should begin in March. If you’re interested in contracting for this work, an RFQ for the work will be posted on our website in the coming week at www.onsl.org/rfqs

Three Buildings Being Stabilized! We received a large Neighborhood Transformation Grant from CDA to fund four projects in Old North. The largest of these projects is to secure and stabilize three historic buildings in core areas of the neighborhood. We will be pursuing funding to develop these homes further in addition to looking for buyers ready to rehab a great home. Again, if you’re interested in contracting for this work, an RFQ for the work will be posted on our website in the coming week at www.onsl.org/rfqs

Full Time Staff Once Again! Another funded project with the Neighborhood Transformation Grant is to build the capacity of our organization with a full time project manager. We have welcomed Dr. Carl Harris to Old North, and he is managing the building and renovation projects, managing the other components of our Neighborhood Transformation Grant, and helping out with the many activities of the ONSLRG. This has been great for our volunteer-run organization. You can email Carl at Carl.Harris@onsl.org

Thanks for joining along with us as we continue to transform our neighborhood and care for our neighbors! If you’d like to support our work, we are always looking for volunteers and donations. You can email us at frontdesk@onsl.org and visit our DonorBox site at https://donorbox.org/building-a-sustainable-future
