Learn Details of Streetcar Proposal for Old North at March 7 Open House

If you’d like to learn more details about a new proposal to develop a streetcar line that will connect Old North to Downtown and other neighborhoods, you’ll get a good opportunity on Thursday, March 7.

The open house on March 7, from 4-7 p.m., will provide the public with an opportunity to see the plans, maps, and drawings, and to talk with the consultants who prepared the feasibility study for the route.

To learn more about the plan before the open house, you can read a good summary posted on the nextSTL website, written by Matt Fernandez, ONSLRG’s Community Development Specialist.  Click HERE for that article.  To download and print off the PDF version of the flyer to share with your neighbors or to post in a place where others will see it, click HERE.

New YouTube video for North City Farmers’ Market

We’re a little more than three months away from the start of the farmers’ market season, but thanks to a generous contribution of time and professional skills by Megan Kimball, we have a new, high quality video that captures a bit of the sights, sounds, and feel of our North City Farmers’ Market.

Click on the image above or click HERE to view the video on YouTube.  And once you’re there, be sure to give it a “thumbs up” - and forward the link to all of your friends and/or share with others via Facebook or Twitter.

Thank you to Megan and all who agreed to be interviewed and/or cooperated in one way or another to make this video possible.

And while we’re on the subject of North City Farmers’ Market, our third annual trivia night fundraiser for the market and the 13th Street Community Garden is scheduled for Friday, April 19 at 7 p.m. Since space is limited, it’s not too soon to get your table together and reserve your space now.  If you know of any good sources for items appropriate for the silent auction, contact our practicum students, Kristin and Becky, at the ONSLRG office to get them the information.

Contact the ONSLRG office at 314-241-5031 or send an email to info@ONSL.org if you have any questions or if you’d like to volunteer to help with trivia night.

Please join us: Annual Meeting & Pot-Luck Supper; Run for the Chocolate; and Sustainable Land Lab Exhibit

Our 2013 calendars are still relatively new, but the event schedule is filling up fast.  Please celebrate the vitality of Old North by joining us at all (or as many as you can) of the following:

On Monday, February 18 at 6 p.m., Old North Saint Louis Restoration Group will hold the 2013 edition of our Annual Meeting & Pot-Luck Supper.  This occasion has become a winter tradition for many neighbors and provides a wonderful opportunity to share a meal with a good mix of long-time residents and recent arrivals.  In addition to hearing about highlights from 2012 and learning about our plans for 2013, members will vote on the four positions on ONSLRG’s board (with terms running from 2013 until 2015) that are up for election this year.  Click HERE for information on the benefits of ONSLRG’s membership and how you can join.

In the meantime, we’d love to see you at a couple of other events:

Throughout the month of February - stop by ONSLRG’s gallery at 2700 N. 14th Street to take a look at the exhibit of the 14 Sustainable Land Lab competition proposals currently being considered for implementation on 4 lots in the Crown Square area.  Details about the proposals, from the materials submitted for the first round of the competition can be found by clicking HERE.  The boards on display at the ONSLRG Gallery provide more detail and other updates.  Comment forms are available at the gallery so that you can let us know which concepts you find most appealing.

The gallery is open during regular business hours (9-5, Monday-Friday) and occasionally for limited hours over the weekend or on weeknight evenings.  Call the ONSLRG office at 314-241-5031 to check on after-hours options — or check back here for further announcements.

THIS Sunday, February 10, is the second annual Run for the Chocolate!  This pre-Valentines 5k run is a fun opportunity to show off the beauty and charm of Old North to up to a thousand visitors who will be running through the community.  Because the route involves running in the streets, several intersections will be closed off during the race, which also means there is a great need for volunteers to help direct traffic, hand out water (and chocolate!) to runners, and various other tasks.  Please contact the ONSLRG office at 314-241-5031 or by email at info@ONSL.org if you can help — and we’ll put you in touch with the race organizers.

Hundreds of runners braved bitterly cold weather last year; this year's warmer temperatures should attract a much larger crowd.
